The IceT Framework for Metacomputing
نویسندگان
چکیده
IceT is based on the premise that distributed computations involve resources, processes, data, and users, and that secure yet exible mechanisms for cooperation and communication between these entities is the key to metacomputing infrastructures. The IceT computing environment is a dynamically changing virtual machine which is constructed by assembling multiple hosts or by merging of, or recursive aggregation of existing virtual machines. Merging of these virtual machines results in multiple time-shared virtual platforms. Upon these combined resources, data and processes are mutually accessible, trans-ferable and executable amongst multiple users. This design permits wider access to computational resources and programming libraries and enables better workload allocation without compromising owner security or priority. This paper discusses the advantages of such a design and how they are implemented in the IceT project.

Metacomputing with the ICET System
IceT is based on the premise that distributed computations involve resources, processes, data, and users, and that secure yet flexible mechanisms for cooperation and communication between these types of entities is the key to metacomputing infrastructures. The basis for IceT computing is process-oriented distributed memory multicom-puting, but with key differences, including merging and splitti...
متن کاملIceT: Distributed Computing and Java
Metacomputing, or distributed processing on networks (local networks, intranets, or the Internet), has re-emerged as a technology with tremendous promise and potential, owing in part to the emergence of the Java language and programming system. Java both innuences and is innuenced by the requisite and dynamic aspects of network programming. However, its viability as a programming language for t...
متن کاملResource management in a Jini-based metacomputing framework
This paper reports on the development of a Jini technology based metacomputing environment. It gives an overview of Jini and highlights those features that can be used effectively for metacomputing. It presents the structure of a prototype Jini framework based on the trio of Client–Broker–Host services. It explores the use of attributes in describing and looking up services. The overall working...
متن کاملThe Harness Metacomputing Framework
Metacomputing frameworks have received renewed attention of late, fueled both by advances in hardware and networking, and by novel concepts such as computational grids. However these frameworks are often inflexible, and force the application into a fixed environment rather than trying to adapt to the application’s needs. Harness is an experimental metacomputing framework based upon the principl...
متن کاملStandards Based Heterogeneous Metacomputing: The Design of HARNESS II
Emerging trends in heterogeneous distributed metacomputing and in Web Services technologies exhibit several commonalities that each domain can exploit. In this paper, we present an architectural model and design issues in leveraging Web Services to construct metacomputing frameworks. Our design is based on a combination of concepts currently embodied in the Harness system and those implemented ...
